What is Tapestri?
Tapestri Inc. Georgia-based non-profit organization founded in 1996. Their mission is to end violence and oppression within immigrant and refugee communities. What sets them apart is their use of culture and language awareness methods to best help their diverse client base. Advocating for those affected by human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault, and exploitation, Tapestri offers resources for education, community organizing, direct services, and advocacy to improve the lives of those it serves.
The name “Tapestri” symbolizes the different threads of society coming together to form a protective cover for diverse communities. Tapestri believes that every individual has the right to live without fear, and their amazing work for the community certainly helps make that belief a reality.
What Services Does Tapestri Offer?
Tapestri provides a wide range of vital services to support those affected by human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault, and exploitation. Here’s an overview of their different programs and services:
Domestic Violence Program
- Casework and Crisis Counseling: Providing immediate support and long-term planning to help survivors build safe, self-sufficient lives.
- Legal Advocacy: Assisting with obtaining Temporary Protective Orders, navigating child support and custody battles, and addressing divorce and immigration proceedings.
- Referrals to Culturally Sensitive, Pro-Bono Attorneys: Connecting clients with legal professionals who understand their cultural and linguistic needs.
Human Trafficking Program
- Victim Assistance: Offering crisis counseling, housing assistance, physical and mental healthcare, legal and immigration aid, ESOL and vocational skills training, and translation and interpretation services.
- Training for Service Providers: Educating mainstream and community-based service providers on human trafficking prevention and awareness.
Family Violence Intervention Program (FVIP)
- Men’s Program: A 24-week, court-mandated program for immigrant and refugee men, focusing on preventing violence before it begins by encouraging men to explore cultural beliefs and dynamics that promote violence.
- Community Outreach: Conducting education and orientation sessions on family violence, and support groups for potentially violent men and their partners.
Support for Unaccompanied Minors
- Program Focus: Tapestri works with unaccompanied children who enter the U.S. without parents or legal guardians.
- Services Provided: The program offers case management, legal services, and family reunification support.
